_Average Gamer Spent Over £300 on Videogames A year ago
Gamers buying games across multiple devices
ShopTo - London 19th June, 2012 - Last year, gamers across the UK bought over 16 games, spending around £334 based on a survey released today. The survey provides important new insights into how gamers are continuing to get games, regardless of the current economic climate and console cycle, including the way the past 2 years have experienced a dramatic shift from video gaming to cellular devices and smart TVs.
Videogames - Laptop computer, conducted between 15th and 17th June 2012 by ShopTo.net, found out that new devices were stealing business in the ‘traditional’ gaming market for example PlayStation and Xbox with 35% of these surveyed spending more hours winning contests on the Smartphone.
Wii U - “Gamers are changing their gaming device associated with preference with more getting their casual gaming fix from Android and iOS devices,” said Igor Cipolletta, Founder and CEO of ShopTo. “Interestingly, there has been game sales about the Nintendo consoles missing out as the casual games market on portable devices continues to grow.”
Around 65% of the surveyed owned a Nintendo Wii only 4% of those had got a new game for the console before a year. The typical UK gamer owned 4 gaming devices with 80% of respondents owning a PC, mobile phone and a pair of games consoles.
“The simple truth is consumers have more gaming devices than previously, with a large number of games being published weekly and also this, coupled with the lack of new hardware from Sony or Microsoft, is seeing consumers go on to mobile devices as his or her platform of preference.”
“We believe this trend will reverse when the next generation of consoles are freed beginning with the Wii U this Christmas.” concluded Igor.
